California Trip Part 1: Sea World

We have been planning a trip to southern California since last winter, and Sarah has been SO excited! Leading up to the trip, the part she was most looking forward to was flying on an airplane to get there. She has actually been on about 20 plane trips, but she can't remember any of the others. We got up early to get to the airport in Boise, but she was way too excited about everything to think about napping on the plane.

Fortunately, we had a 2 hour direct flight to San Diego, so the trip was over pretty quick. Chris was pretty squirrelly and only slept for 10 minutes. When we landed and saw palm trees out the window, Sarah said, "Look! We are on an island! Island trees!"
After the adventure of making it through the airport and getting our rental car, Sarah fell sound asleep  and Kelson and I enjoyed some amazing San Diego carne asada burritos. We have missed the food in San Diego so much! It was really fun to be back in one of our old homes.
After our delicious lunch, we all headed to Sea World. Both of our kids love fish, and they were super excited. The best part was that we were able to meet up with our friends, the Phillips, there. We were friends in Virginia. Elaina was Sarah's best friend. They moved to Kansas City the same time we moved to Idaho, and we all happened to be in San Diego at the same time. Yay!

They had some really neat touch tanks where the kids could touch fish, sharks, horseshoe crabs, and other animals.

The sea lion show was a big hit.
Feeding the bat rays, my absolute favorite part of Sea world.
Checking out the star fish pool
Throwback to my 8 year old self at the star fish pool at Sea World. Awwww
These two little besties had so much fun together that day. They splashed in puddles, held hands, and showed each other all of the exciting animals.

Same little girls splashing in a mud puddle in Virginia a year and a half ago. They have grown up so fast!
The shark tunnel was Sarah's favorite. She loved watching the "smiling" sharks swim over us.

Our Nemo-loving girl was very excited to see turtles.

We had lots of fun in the Sesame Place area. They had a ride like the teacups. Moms and babies rode in a nice, slow teacup while dads took the girls for a super fast spin.

They had this giant bouncy house, which the girls loved. They also had a huge play structure. It was a great place for everyone to get their wiggles out.

It was such a fun day with good friends, and a perfect start to our magical vacation.
We took our tired kiddos and walked off into the beautiful California sunset. We had dinner at Daphne's, one of our favorite California restaurants, and then had a peaceful drive up to Anaheim with two sleeping children.
