Spruance Change of Command

We recently attended the change of command ceremony for Kelson's ship. The former executive officer became the new captain, and there was a big ceremony on the flight deck of the USS Midway to commemorate the occasion. The officers and crew of Spruance looked very sharp in their dress whites. It was a great day.

On board the Midway

all of the junior officers from the ship

There is an awesome Bob Hope memorial right by the Midway that has a soundtrack of him talking and some neat statues. Kelson joined in to applaud along with the rest of the troops. He fits right in.

In front of the statue commemorating the post-WWII sailor and nurse kiss picture. Quite appropriate for us. Our form needs a little work to match the statue. We will have to practice.

We were stopped multiple times by people who wanted pictures with the Naval officers. Kelson is basically a celebrity.

The former captain took the officers out for appetizers at a nice seafood restaurant next to the Midway. Kelson tried raw oysters for the first time. He is braver than I. However, I did try sushi for the first time that day.

Verdict? Not bad, just slimy and garlicky and salty. It just kind of slid down.
