Kate's Blessing Day

On her 2 month birthday, Kelson gave Kathryn Diane a name and a blessing at church. Grandma and Grandpa Hindman and Aunt Katy came for her special day. Some of the things mentioned in her blessing were that her parents and her Heavily Father love her, she will rediscover the love of Heavenly Father in each stage of her life, she will receive the blessings of baptism and the temple, and that someday she will return home to her Heavenly Father and be happy to see him again. It was a beautiful blessing. Kate was blessed in an heirloom gown that belonged to my grandfather over 110 years ago. I was blessed in the same gown, as were Sarah and Chris.

Kate was named for my sister, Katy. She has a wonderful role model to look to! Kate's middle name is mine, and I was named after my mom's sister and best friend, both of whom are named Diane.

Kate: 2 Months

We have had our beautiful Kate with us for 2 months!
 Kate at 2 months:
  • Weight: 8 lbs 12 ounces,   Length: 21 inches (For interest, Sarah was 3 inches longer and 3 pounds heavier at the same age)  More than double her birth weight. Yay! At birth, Kate was in the 5th percentile for a 36 week infant. Now she is in the 25th percentile compared to other babies born at 36 weeks.
  • Doing much better nursing and is gaining weight well enough that we can stop fortifying her breastmilk with formula, and she can nurse for all of her feedings. Great news!
  • Finally giving us some great smiles. She smiled occasionally over the last several weeks, but just in the last few days she has been smiling in response to us.
  • Blessed at church today
  • Kate is a pretty good sleeper. She is usually only up once or twice a night and falls asleep on her own after we swaddle her and give her a pacifier. She is also a great napper (unlike both of her siblings.)
  • Rather than having a fussy time in the evening, Kate has an awake time. We swaddle her and stick her in her seat and she sucks on her pacifier and stares at us with her big eyes for an hour until she falls asleep.
  • Overall, Kate is a pretty relaxed, easy baby. Such a joy to have in our family!

Christmas 2018

All dressed up for Christmas Sunday. Chris was super excited about pictures.
 Matching Christmas girls
It will be a sad day when they don't want to match any more.
There was plenty of snow at Uncle Jeremy's house, so we spent Christmas Eve morning sledding with the Hindman cousins. They built a ramp so they could sled right in the front yard. So much fun!
 A little snowball fighting

Kate slept through her first sledding trip in the Moby wrap.

We all went back to Jeremy's house for Christmas Eve dinner, followed by a live nativity. Sarah played Mary this year, Chris was an (unwilling) sheep, and Kate was the cutest little baby Jesus that ever was.

We went home and got our treats ready for Santa. We decided he was tired of cookies and would probably rather have some of Grandma's Christmas candy and a drink of water.

 Christmas morning!

Sarah asked Santa for a blue toy umbrella, and he did not disappoint.

Santa brought Chris a bunch of Hot Wheels cars and tracks. They were a big hit with everyone.

 Kate's first Christmas morning.
I found this stable and Katy re-painted it for Sarah's toy horses. She opened it and said, "look a stable." It was a very underwhelming reaction.
That's the reaction I was hoping for on the stable. Giggling about the Yeti in My Spaghetti game.
 Presenting Kate with her quilt

This is how Kate felt about Christmas.

I didn't get a picture, but Kelson got me an awesome surprise for Christmas. When we went to Leavenworth in October, I fell in love with a large mirror at an antique shop, but decided against buying it because it was too expensive. Kelson snuck away and managed to purchase it and sneak it home without me knowing. I love it!
 Stocking time!
Enjoying a tea party with her new tea set while we waited for the cousins to get there.
Chris is obsessed with pushing number buttons, so he got an adding machine in his stocking. He spent the rest of the day playing with it.
Opening presents with the whole family can get a little crazy. Chris found a good spot to hide out in this box.
 All ready for Christmas dinner
Kate enjoyed dinner from her swing
We had such a fun Christmas day with everyone at Grandma & Grandpa's house!
Once we got the stable home, it turned out to be a hit after all. Bonus that it is big enough for kids to climb in, not just the toy horses!
